The online ticket holders’ line at the entrance, where everyone with a booking queues for the security check. Faster than the ticket office, but still [15 to 20 minutes] on a summer afternoon.
The dedicated fast-track entrance – the only one that costs extra. Fast-track holders skip the second queue too and enter through a separate door.

Duomo Cathedral Milan Tickets Discount
There are no promo codes or flash sales for the Duomo. Discounts are only available based on age groups. Children under 6 and Youth between 6 and 17 years get the reduced youth rate, which applies across all the main ticket types.
While the general admission ticket to Milan Cathedral and rooftop costs € for visitors over 19, kids get discounted entry. Youth get a discounted price of € while kids ticket cost only €3.
That’s the list. There is no senior citizen discount at the Duomo. Guest over-65s pay full adult price, which catches out a lot of visitors used to concessions at other European cathedrals and museums. No student rate either. If you’re travelling as a couple in your seventies, budget for two full-price tickets.
Reduced tickets are checked at the entrance, so carry ID for anyone claiming the youth rate. Under-6s aren’t usually questioned, but a passport in your bag saves an argument.
The saving most people miss isn’t a discount at all – it’s picking the right ticket. Cathedral, terraces, museum and San Gottardo bought separately cost more than the combined ticket covering all four. Same with the stairs: €26 against €32 for an identical view once you’re up there, if the 256 steps don’t put you off. City Passes and combo tickets also offer to 10% to 50% discount on entry ticket prices. However, check the inclusiosn of these packages to ensure it covers all parts of Duomo di Milano you would like to visit.
Free Entry to Milan Cathedral
Free entry is available only to attend the mass in the cathedral. The Milan Duomo cathedral is a working church, and you can enter for Mass or private prayer without a ticket. You’re directed to the area kept for worshippers – no terraces, no museum, no audio guide, and no wandering. It’s the right option if you’re going for the service, not a way around the entry fee.
Milan Cathedral has introduced free entry in 2026 to all visitors on selected dates. In 2026, you can enjoy free entry on 16 October and 4 November. The Duomo Museum offers free entry to all guests on the last sunday of every month, starting from September 2026.
Before buying your tickets to the Duomo di Milano, here are a few things you should keep in mind:
All tickets are timed: you pick a slot while booking and can enter only during that slot. Arrive 15 minutes early to clear security. Late entries are not accommodated, and rescheduling is subject to availability.
Beware of unauthorized sellers at the venue: avoid buying from random sellers who approach you around the Duomo. They take advantage of sold-out situations, often pretend to be guides, and their tickets will not get you entry.
Buy only from official sources: the venue ticket counter, or recognized partners of Duomo di Milano like GetYourGuide and Tiqets if you are booking in advance.
The counter queue runs 40 minutes to 2 hours: depending on the time and month of your visit, and tickets sell out soon, so there is no guarantee you will get your desired ticket even after the wait.
Booking online saves the wait and the currency hassle: you can compare all ticket options at home, and foreign tourists can pay in their native currency without carrying cash or paying forex charges.
The rooftop is 250 stairs if you take the stairs option: if you cannot climb narrow stairs or are visiting during peak times, take the elevator instead.
An extra €2 gets you priority elevator access: a separate elevator with no waiting.
The elevator only reaches the first level of the rooftop. The top level is accessible by stairs only, whichever ticket you buy.
The return elevator is reserved for visitors with special needs. Everyone else is expected to take the stairs down. If the crowd is light, elevator ticket holders might get a ride back down, but it is not guaranteed.
The rooftop surface is uneven and hence not suitable for visitors with special needs.
Children get age-based discounts and youth rates apply on some tickets, but adults get no reduced prices on regular tickets and tours.
Guided tour meeting points vary by provider: guide details, contact information and meeting points are emailed a day before the tour. Arrive 15 minutes early, as the group will not wait and there is no refund or reschedule for a missed slot.
The complete Duomo experience ticket comes with a 72-hour voucher: the Duomo, rooftop and museum stay timed, while the coupon covers the other attractions across three days.
Check the cancellation terms on your specific ticket: most offer easy 24-hour cancellation and rescheduling, but not all do.

Duomo di Milano Tickets – FAQs
Do you need a ticket to enter Milan Cathedral?
Yes, you need a ticket to visit Milan Cathedral as a tourist. Entry is free only if you are going in to pray or attend Mass, but if you want to explore the interiors, rooftop and other areas, you need a ticket. Every area of the complex is ticketed separately or covered by a combined ticket.
Which part of the Duomo is free?
The cathedral is free only for worship. You can enter through the entrance reserved for the faithful to attend Mass or pray, without buying a ticket. This does not include sightseeing access, the rooftop terraces, the museum or the audio guide, and you will be directed to the area kept for worshippers rather than allowed to walk around.
Do kids need Duomo di Milano tickets to enter the cathedral?
Children under 6 enter free, but they still need a ticket issued in their name. Most online platforms show this as a €2 booking fee rather than a price, so add them to your booking even though there is no admission charge. Children aged 6 and above need a paid reduced ticket.
Do I need separate Duomo di Milano rooftop tickets?
Only if you want the rooftop alone. Rooftop terrace tickets start at €19 by stairs and €22 by lift and cover the terraces without cathedral entry. If you want both, the combined cathedral and rooftop ticket at €26 by stairs or €32 by lift works out cheaper than buying the two separately.
Is it worth going inside Milan Cathedral?
Yes. From outside you see the facade, but the interior is where the scale registers, 52 pillars, one of the largest stained glass collections in the world, and a nave that runs almost 160 metres. Many visitors book the rooftop only and skip the interior, then regret it. If you are choosing just one, the rooftop has the views, but the combined ticket at €26 costs only €7 more than terraces alone.
Which ticket should I buy for Duomo Milan?
For most first-time visitors, the Milan Cathedral and rooftop entry ticket is the right choice. It covers the cathedral interior, the rooftop terraces, the Duomo Museum and San Gottardo in Corte, with an audio guide included. Choose the €26 stairs version if you are comfortable with 250 steps, or the €32 lift version if you are not. If you want the archaeological area as well, the full Duomo complex access ticket at €39 covers everything.
Is the Duomo di Milano guided tour worth it?
It is worth it if you want context rather than just access. The €69 cathedral and rooftop guided tour covers the history, the symbolism in the stonework and the details most visitors walk past, and usually includes priority entry. If you mainly want the views and are happy reading as you go, the audio guide included with the standard ticket covers the basics for far less.
Can I get skip-the-line tickets for the Duomo in Milan?
Yes. Online tickets skip the ticket office queue, and the fast-track upgrade skips the entrance line too. Visitors with certified disabilities and their assistant always get priority access on a standard ticket.
How much does it cost to visit Duomo di Milano?
Milan Cathedral entry is €12, cathedral plus rooftop is €26 by stairs or €32 by lift, full complex access is €39, and the Milan City Pass is €47. Guided tours start at €69.
How much do rooftop tickets cost?
Duomo di Milano rooftop ticket costs €19 by stairs and €22 by lift for adults. Children pay €10 and €12 respectively.
Can I get a discount on Duomo Milan tickets?
Discounts are available only by age. Under-6s are free and 6 to 17 get a reduced rate. There is no senior citizen discount. For adults, savings come from combo tickets or the city pass, both online only.
Are there discounts for visitors with disabilities?
Yes, free or heavily reduced entry for the visitor and one companion, plus priority access. Bring documentation and buy directly from the official ticket office, as third-party platforms do not always offer this rate.
Where can I buy Milan Cathedral tickets?
At the official ticket office in Piazza del Duomo, on the official website, or through authorised partners like GetYourGuide and Tiqets. Never from street sellers.
Can I buy tickets in person?
Yes, but the counter queue runs 40 minutes to 2 hours, and rooftop slots often sell out before you reach the front.
Do I need to buy Duomo tickets in advance?
Yes between April and October and on weekends, when rooftop slots and lift access book out days ahead. Off-season on a weekday you can usually buy on the day.
How long is my ticket valid?
Depends on the ticket. The cathedral and terraces ticket is valid 2 days, with the voucher valid 48 hours from the booked date. Terrace-only tickets are often one day. Time slots still apply within that window.
Can I re-enter with the same ticket?
No. Each ticket allows a single entry per area, once you leave the rooftop or museum, you cannot go back in.
Can I change my time slot?
Usually up to 24 hours before, subject to availability. Same-day changes are rarely possible and late arrivals are not admitted.
How long can I stay inside?
No time limit. Your slot controls entry, not duration. Terraces close at 6:30 PM, with last entry at 5:50 PM.
Are Duomo tickets refundable?
Six centuries in the making.
